Voices of Jamaica: Afro-Jamaican Music, Stories & Miss Lou
Celebrate Black History Month with music, stories, and culture from Jamaica!
Presented by Jamaican-Canadian guitarist, composer, teacher, and Afro-Jamaican oral artist Maurice Gordon, this engaging program blends Afro-Jamaican folk music, storytelling, drumming, singing, and spoken word. Audiences will journey through Jamaica’s rich African roots—featuring Anansi stories, Maroon traditions, work songs, and community rituals—while also celebrating the life and legacy of Miss Lou (Louise Bennett-Coverley). Lively, interactive, and full of humour and heart, this performance highlights language, identity, cultural pride, and love at the center of Jamaican culture.
All ages welcome.
This event is part of TPL's Black History and Culture Series.
