Event description

Authors Gillian Deacon and Mark Medley discuss their illuminating new books exploring the human relationship to the unknown.

Deacon's A Love Affair with the Unknown is a refreshing look at the inevitability of uncertainty and how it can help make the hard parts of life more manageable. Her investigation reminds us that, like comedy improvisation and jazz music, beautiful things can result from the unpredictable and unplanned.

In Live to See the Day, Medley sets out to find people who have devoted their lives to dreams they know have little chance of coming true, or that will only come to pass in decades—if not centuries—from now. Through interviews with more than 250 people he seeks to answer the question, why do people pursue impossible goals?

Gillian Deacon and Mark Medley speak with journalist Alanna Mitchell about hope, perseverance and what it means to live a rewarding life.

Q&A and book signing to follow. Books available for purchase.
