Restaurant Kid: A Memoir of Family and Belonging

Rachel Phan is a Chinese-Vietnamese Canadian writer whose debut memoir Restaurant Kid explores the complexities of growing up as the daughter of refugees who fled the Vietnam War and rebuilt their lives through a small-town restaurant in Canada. Through personal stories rooted in resilience, sacrifice, and belonging, Rachel sheds light on the impact of colonialism, intergenerational trauma, and the emotional weight of cultural and societal expectations.
