1 in 8 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Early detection through screening with mammograms can improve outcomes and save lives, but it also raises important questions about who should be screened, when screening should begin, and how to balance the potential benefits and harms. Understanding the latest evidence helps support informed decisions about breast cancer screening and prevention.
What to expect:
- The Basics of Breast Cancer: Learn how breast cancer develops, how it is diagnosed, and how the patterns of the disease have changed over time.
- Risk Factors: Explore the factors that influence a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer, including genetics, hormonal factors and lifestyle.
- Breast Cancer Screening: Understand how mammography screening works, what the scientific evidence shows about its benefits and potential harms, and how screening programs are currently implemented in Canada.
