Storytelling Through Beadwork

Marissa Magneson is a Cree-Métis artist, photographer, and educator with Red River roots, holding a BFA (Hons.) and a Master’s in Indigenous Studies with a focus on beadwork as visual storytelling. Her work centers on decolonizing education, community strengthening, and reclaiming cultural practices, and she has been nationally recognized as a 2023 Vanier Scholar and one of York University’s Top 30 Alumni Under 30. Currently a PhD candidate at York University, Marissa also teaches, creates, and facilitates workshops. She is inspired by the legacy of her Métis grandmother, Elaine Jessop (Desjarlais).
